Falkirk
When we got off the train in Falkirk we found a taxi driver that was willing to drive us to some tourist sites and hang around while we took pictures.
(Please note, Julie, now is the time to look away!)
One of the things I had really been looking forward to was The Kelpies and they didn't disappoint.
You can look up the story of Kelpies and their mythical significance.
The taxi driver told us that Falkirk used to be a bedroom community of sorts but, with the Kelpies and The Wheel, was now very much driven by tourism.
The Wheel is an interesting engineering feat that allows barges to come up to the wheel and get moved around, top to bottom or vice versa, to avoid spending hours going through locks to ascend/decend the river
There is a red barge entering below and the wheel will rotate counter clockwise to raise it up above to the waiting water.
Back to the train to head on to Stirling. Along the way we saw golfers
And these interesting trees covered with red berries. The driver told us they were wild cherries. They are everywhere up here. (Sorry for the glare on the photo)
Also noticed these beautiful flowers that I thought were fake until I got closer.
And no idea what this fellow is.
Next stop is Stirling and the beautiful castle.
I scrolled quickly. I’m glad you survived. I would have felt like bait. I’m not going to go back and look - but was one looking upward? How many were there - don’t reply here. I’m not opening this one again.
ReplyDeleteI love the Kelpies! And the Wheel! Had no idea theses 2 things were in the same town.
