Oxford
The town of Oxford is a fascinating blend of architectures but very densely populated with lots of trees making it feel even denser...and difficult to document if you aren't on foot.
We got off at a corner of one of the 39 colleges that make up Oxford University. I wasn't keeping good notes but I think this is Exeter College.
We were not allowed in but they had a place you could peek into their courtyard and take a photo.
We were guided around for almost an hour seeing stuff that looked nothing like what I thought this place was from seeing it in the movies.
This is the Sheldonian Theater designed by Sir Christopher Wren.
A statue of King James in one of the quads.
An example of Venetian influence at one point.
And other buildings.
I am surprised I was so surprised by this place. Really thought it was a walled area with quads.
On the way home I spotted this unusual billboard in London.
Very modern and just rotated through several advertisings.
Tomorrow we are off to Salisbury to see Stonehenge and the cathedral.
Great pics. That theater Is amazing. Whose heads are on the posts? I love Mike’s ponytail popping up in many of the pictures
ReplyDeleteI don't think they are anyone in particular and Mike commented that I kept getting him in the shots
DeleteThose "courtyard peep" photos sure reminded me of scenes from Grandchester.
