Salisbury - Stonehenge
Today was a great day. Made the subway with a minute to spare. Made it to the train with three minutes to spare. The train drops us off a block from our hotel and the pub that holds luggage is half way in between.
The tour train we catch is up between the pub and the train. How simple. And off we go.
The hillside out is typical,
With the exception of rectangular cut outs in the trees from the tour buses. I tried to get a neat picture of the tunnel with trees on both sides but bus was going too fast.
And we arrive with about five hundred other people. We linger at the public toilet before heading up.
Along the way we met this fellow feeding the ravens. They seemed very comfortable with him so I asked if they had names. And yes, there was George, Baby and others.
I took photos from every angle but will show only a few.
And there was one spot we could get really close.
And the view from behind us.
We missed viewing the equinox by two days.
Down at the visitor center you could go in a room where they projected the henge around you as if you were standing in the center.
And then you could tour an area where a small village was created and some park people were demonstrating re-thatching a roof.
There was also a henge stone in progress.
We got back to town to pick up luggage at the pub and decided to eat dinner there. Glad we did!
You will need to look up halloumi. It was on the second menu choice and I was feeling adventurous. But not enough for the Chicken Whippy closer to the bottom.
We checked into our room
Opened the windows for fresh air,
and plan on watching our third night of championship snooker. We have really become addicted!
Tomorrow is the chapel with the Magna Carta before heading to Chester for five nights.
