Stirling Castle
Ok, pretty amazing. Let's just wander through.
Entry
Note flags at half staff due to death of a countess. Note empty pole as Earl not in residence.
Statue of Robert the Bruce.
Walls
Gardens
Narrow windows for shooting arrows while remaining protected.
Neat doors.
Even into ladies toilet.
Walkways
Battlements
This view is of the Stirling Battle site and off in the distance is the memorial to William Wallace.
Some shots of buildings inside the walls.
We move indoors
The Great Hall
And read this story about what they did in here.
The personal chambers.
I love this tapestry but did not know it lived here. Unicorns are very important and play a big role in the heraldry.
And even on the ceiling.
This room's ceiling was covered in people.
We had seen it all. Time to head back down the hill
and catch a train home.
Tomorrow we leave Scotland behind and start our tour of England in York.
Thanks for sharing all your experiences.
ReplyDeleteIn the 70s I had a little box with that tapestry pictured on it. I didn't know the source of the design, so how cool to see your photo. Don't you wonder how many people lived inside those castle walls?
ReplyDeleteI never heard mention but it could accommodate a small town
DeleteWow!! That castle is everything it should be. All of those gravestones- are they from battles and/or locals who lived in/near the castle?
ReplyDeleteDon't know
ReplyDeleteThe Unicorn is the national animal of Scotland!
