The Rows

We slept in and had an easy day wandering around The Rows on the way to the cathedral.

We learned yesterday that this darker colored diamond shaped pattern in the brick work became quite the status symbol back in the day. Guess it is appropriate it is on the wealth management building!
The Rows are an old market section with two level walks. Most of the buildings have the traditional black and white design.
When you are on the second level midway down this is what you see facing the street.
And when you turn around you see this.
Different worlds.

The Chester Cathedral was worth the visit.
A long hall of stained glass windows of saints.
Mosaic representations of stories from the Bible
Water garden statue of Jesus and the woman from Samaria.
Many of the flagstones beneath your feet were....
gravestones!

Other sites from our stroll:

Townhall
Street art on black electric box
More very low passages

Flowers
Posts that the guard can lower when cars need to be let into the pedestrian areas
Statue of elephant inspired by the story of the Chester Zoo. Interesting story you can look up.
And a few photos of the wildlife habitat built inside a busy round- about. The sidewalk going down and tunnels under the roads have local artwork.
And these are the metal trees from day before.
Finally, I found these entrances interesting. Designed to save space in narrow side streets.
And this design above door.
Not sure how we will plan the last two days. Will look at the weather in the morning  but mostly have things to do in Wales.
