Wrexham

Ok Peggy, this post is for you and Jack.

"Welcome to Wrexham" is a TV show that has been around about four seasons. It follows the true story of friends Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mc Elhenney who purchase a down on its luck football team in Wrexham, Wales and turned the team's and the town's fortunes around. Peggy and Jack are BIG fans and asked us to get a scarf from the team when we were close by.

Here is our story.

We got to the train station for the 15 minute ride to Wrexham and dropped into the cafe there for a healthy breakfast.
The Chester train station is noteworthy because it was designed and built by Thomas Brassey who was a major train station developer in England back in the day.
He gave the money to have it built and it held a record at some time for having the longest facade on a building. It was also built in one single year. This photo shows about half of it.
This station connects us directly to Wrexham which has a flavor all it's own. Everything here is green and red - pretty sure the team colors.
We arrived in time to hear the football game in progress. You could hear the roars from the crowd all the way to the station. Maybe not that impressive as they are literally next door to each other. Here is a shot from station and that leaning pole in the center is lighting for the stadium.
We walked across the rail bridge and managed to get you this shot of the crowd watching the game.
We went down to the team store to get the scarf only to be told they were closed while the game is on. When they heard we were Americans sent there specifically to aquire a scarf they opened the doors and asked us in. The transaction was quick

and we were on our with some time to wander around before the train went back.

A few fun photos

It started to rain so we headed back to the train...just as the game let out and everyone flooded the station.

Since we were surrounded by folks that had just left the game I had an idea. Get one of the fans to wear the scarf for a moment and take a picture. There were a few guys who had had a few too many who were all up for it...until I took the scarf out of the bag. They were for the opposing team and mockingly jeered at me. One of the women in the crowd pointed out a young man already wearing the same scarf so I asked him. He was willing to do it but completely stunned that some strange old woman with a foreign accent was asking this favor. I thanked him but could tell he was so shy that I chose not to ask for a photograph. I got this one later before boarding. He is the short little fellow in the blue jacket. He was a true fan and doned the scarf for a whole 30 seconds. His dad just smiled.
My understanding was the game was a draw which was good for Wrexham.

We are back at our room waiting for the snooker match to resume. Not sure if it is still quarter finals or semi. We hope we get to see the last game before we come home.  We have surprised each other at how much we enjoy this stupid game. Here is our favorite guy running the table.
