York - Seeing It

We hopped on the sightseeing bus and drove all around town learning much from a great guide. He suggested a good spot the get up on the wall that circles the old town. Much of the historical stuff can be seen from up here.
Close up of the window with the heart shape that locals say you can kiss under to guarantee your love lasts forever.
More pics of wall and town seen from it.
A workshop where stone carvers were at work.
A place that looked set up for events.
And a modern home with a double level deck and way too much glass facing where tourists are looking straight in.
Here is where the moat used to be.
After a good walk around town we came down a narrow stairway to go over and see The Shambles.
The Shambles is one of the iconic sights of the area with close streets, shops and neat old architecture.
This goes on for blocks and has an outdoor market at one end. When we came out heading back to the hotel we saw the inn from the 17th century.
I have to keep reminding myself that Americans think 200 years is old (and Brits think 200 miles is far.)

Mike took pitty on me and dropped me at hotel on his way to Rail Museum. I get to sleep in tomorrow while he does the Viking Museum.

Then off to London where we will stay for five nights.
