The Rows

We slept in and had an easy day wandering around The Rows on the way to the cathedral. We learned yesterday that this darker colored diamond shaped pattern in the brick work became quite the status symbol back in the day. Guess it is appropriate it is on the wealth management building! The Rows are an old market section with two level walks. Most of the buildings have the traditional black and white design. When you are on the second level midway down this is what you see facing the street. And when you turn around you see this. Different worlds. The Chester Cathedral was worth the visit. A long hall of stained glass windows of saints. Mosaic representations of stories from the Bible  Water garden statue of Jesus and the woman from Samaria. Many of the flagstones beneath your feet were.... gravestones! Ot...

Bus tour of chester

We picked up our coach at the bus station near by. Note the really cool wooden arches in the waiting room. And they are one of many places in town trying to combat global warming by planting the rooftop. Here it is some kind of rosey moss. On the way out we quickly passed the chester sunked garden with the metal trees. They are designed to allow all kinds of things to grow up to create tree like structures. It was inspired by David Attenborough's commitment to the environment. The trees have trunks that go down about a story. I hope to have time to go tour it. From what I could see from the bus it made me think of the gardens in Ft Worth Things we learned along the way. Shops like these were introduced to sway people away from alcohol. Not sure it worked but I can attest that these people know how to make a great cup of chocolate.   Chimneys like these started a trend back in the day  And check out this old place from...
